Suggest Treatment For Bruise On Upper Thoracic Area

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. My name is XXXX. I have very large bruises on the upper thoracic area on my right side. It begins on rib cage area from under arm and goes around underneath the lower half of my right breast. Then right below this area are more extremely large bruises covering the majority of my whole upper right side on the front. Also covering entire belly button. These bruises are purple and occurred for no apparent reason. To my knowledge I did nothing to cause this unless taking large doses of Ibuprofen for a prolonged period of time could cause it.

Also, This happened about 3 days ago and is not getting better. It occurred from out of nowhere. I got out of shower one day and it was just there. I can not imagine anything I did to cause it. These bruises are huge. I want you to understand how large. I also take 10mg of prednisone every day for my COPD. I did forget to tell you this. Plus this has never happened before to me or anyone I know.

I didn't have a chance to enter my phone number earlier. The connection was lost. It is 0(000)YYY-yyyy.

Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that there are two probabilities , one can be due to bleeding which can occur and give rise to such large bruises , secondly it could be a drug reaction . I would advise you to see a doctor immediately as you tell that the bruises are not showing any improvement .
It is very important to see the lesions in person to diagnose it or help you out .

Plus a CBC with diff, PT/INR , BT , CT is also essential to look for any abnormal clotting or bleeding disturbance . You should seek medical advise at the earliest.

Take care.

I do not feel like it is a drug reaction as I have taken these for long time and had no problems before. I thought it was more probable to be bleeding caused by too much blood thinning medication for too long a period of time. I just do not want it to be internal bleeding. Other than that, I am not excessively worried. Or diabetes. What are your thoughts on this?

Dear Madam,

Thank you for reverting back.

But you didnt mention that you are taking blood thinners as if you are taking those drugs then it is the first and foremost possibility . Diabetes wont lead to all this . Plus the burning sensation herpes zoster also needs consideration as you mention taking steroids .

I did not say I was taking blood thinners. I was referring to the fact that I am taking 10mg prednisone plus I have been taking large doses of Ibuprofen for a longer period of time than I should have. This will have some of the same effects as taking blood thinners. I will research herpes zoster but I hope I don't have this on top of all my other health problems.

Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

Yes there exists a possibility but until and unless a doctor sees it in person it will be difficult to give you a diagnosis based on just history. In skin lesions its very important to examine them. If you can upload a pic may be it will help me better to advise you .
