Suggest Treatment For Bruise On Lower Eyelid After Using Hydrocortisone

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Jan 2016
Question: Overnight I have developed what looks to be a bruise on the bottom corner of my eye near the lashes. It looks like a reddish, black bruise, but I haven't hurt my eye, and it's not painful at all. I thought at first that it was residue from my mascara, but it's definitely the skin. I have been using prescription hydrocortisone on my eyelids due to dry, patchy, flakiness and itchiness, that I was prescribed a week ago if that helps.

Brief Answer:
Bruise from hydrocortisone

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You discovered a bruise on the lower eye lid this morning that is non painful and without trauma. The cause is possibly from the steroid cream. Hydrocortisone is a steroid cream and one of it's actions is to reduce WBC lymphocytes and platelets from forming at the site on inflammation and when this happens you can get easy bruising. This bruise is nothing dangerous but I would recommend stopping the hydrocortisone cream for now. The bruise will take about 1 week to resolve.
