Question: I am 45 year old healthy male. About two weeks ago a noticed some blood mixed with my semen after more prolonged masterbation. I went to the dr and he did a digital prostate exam, urinalysis, and psa, all which were normal. He then put me on cipro, as he said that I could have a bacterial infection. It went away for a week, and then I noticed it again after another period of prolonged and frequent masterbation, as well as a clot coming out at the beginning of the next time I urinated. My doctor said that it is probably a ruptured blood vessel that I am not letting heal, and said that it should resolve by itself. He also said that maybe some NSAIDs could help the inflammation and help the healing. How long should it take the the blood vessels to repair and should I be abstaining for? And does this sound correct to you?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it sounds correct to me.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, it sounds correct to me. Based on the description given by you, I think that it is because of trauma. Moreover, all the investigations commonly done to rule out problems with this kind of presentation were normal. So, this supports our assumption.

Usually, it should take about one week to completely heal from this kind of trauma.

Take care!

So, that being said, should i stay on the cipro for another 9 days, which would make it 20 total? And should i continue to take advil for the potential anti inflammatory affect?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I cannot comment on the dosage prescribed by your doctor. It would be unethical and inappropriate to change the dose of scheduled drugs without doing a proper examination. As of now use the prescribed schedule by your doctor. I personally do not think that you would require Advil to potentiate anti inflammatory effect in your case,as it sounds like minor trauma.Kindly give some time to get it healed.

Thank you.
