Suggest Treatment For Blood Blister On Lower Abdomen

Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: I have a blood blister on my lower abdomen that has been there for about two weeks. Originally it started as an abscess and drained. But now about once a week bright red blood comes out if I press lightly. Can see any openings but it finds a little hole and comes out. Any advice to heal on my own...I have no other symptoms

Brief Answer:
Obliterating dressing

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your history, symptoms and probable diagnosis.

Probable explanation is as follows:
It looks that this started as a boil which drained to cause an ulcer crater. The skin healed far faster than the wound in depth causing a pot-belly situation, meaning the lesion under the skin has gone into far wider dimension than the opening in the skin. The inner wound has been covered by granulation tissues as they could not be covered by skin cover. Hence it gives blood collection which comes out intermittently.

It is difficult to be cured by your own so easily.
Ideally you should be seen by a Surgeon, the would explored and the granulation scrapped, skin over the lesion excised so that the would healed definitely by secondary intention (sorry for the Medical jargon).

Yes, as per your thought of healing on your own: you can try the following.
-Apply liquid Povidone Iodine to the area of the blister and skin around to make it sterile. Use a sterile gauze male it like a ball in such a way that it can press on the blister in such a way that the skin is pressed hard against the floor of the abscess and apply sticking tape to hold this in place.
Worth trying.
Keep the dressing in place for as many days as the tape holds, to obliterate the space and allow the skin to get adherent to the underlying tissues.

I hope I have tried my best to simplify to my best.
Try this for about 6 days, well if successful.
