Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting a query at healthcaremagic.
From the available description it appears to me that her correct diagnosis is bipolar disorder which is kind of mood disorder. In this disorder patient experiences both extreme of mood(high and low or mania and depression).
I like to inform you that it is characterized by repeated episodes of mania and depression along with normal period in between.
At one moment patient gets depression and at another moment they suffer with mania in which they may claim that they are having god's power or claim that they are wiping out evil from the planet or so on. During manic phase patient talk much more than needed and have increased sense of well being or euphoric mood.
With the current available treatment bipolar disorder is treatable to a large extent and it has been shown that patients who take regular medication have normal or near normal life. I agree with you that bipolar disorder runs in family but that is not completely true. Research has shown that 50% of patients of bipolar disorder have family members who suffer from one or another mood disorder.
I also like to tell you that there is no disorder which is called schizophrenic bipolar and what you seen the report is not from a authentic or reliable psychologist. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are quite different and it is unlikely not to have a symptom for a patient with schizophrenia. Person with schizophrenia do suffer from chronic illness. Olimelt can be effective in both bipolar and schizophrenia and it does not provide any cue about presence of schizophrenia.
'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks

Dear XXXXXXX
Welcome back to Healthcaremagic.
For any trustful relationship hiding something is not considered good in any society but at the same time we have to understand the various other factors. In our society because of stigma associated with psychiatric illness people conceal almost all information and do not report any history of psychiatric illness to their potential partner. I generally advice my patients to tell everything about their illness to future husband/ wife but I know it rarely happens in majority of cases.
Before I comment anything about her illness in future I need to know folloeing information
1. Total duration of illness
2. Age of onset
3. Number of episodes till date(both mania and depression)
4. Kind of medicine she received in past
5. Response time to medication
6. Any family history of similar illness and outcome of illness in family members
At this moment I can say that majority of patients with bipolar disorder do well if there is no manipulation of medication by them or family members. Most of these patients respond to medication and may live normal or near normal life but I have to acknowledge that there is no method which can perfectly tell you future of illness in individual patient. By knowing above mentioned fact a general idea can be made.
Regarding what you need to do, I am not the suitable person to answer this question. You are mature enough to decide after knowing the relevant fact. I can only provide the advise but without knowing background of her illness and your need there is difficult to answer this.
Please provide the above mentioned details if you are having access or talk to her treating psychiatrist to know the likely outcome of her illness.
Thanks and regards
Dr Ashok
