Brief Answer:
Management and treatment of Bipolar Vs Hyperactivity disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

It is difficult to distinguish bipolar and hyperactivity disorder as both of them share many common characteristics. However, hyperactivity disorder presents with symptoms in childhood itself. Hyperactivity disorder patients will have history of problems at school, behavioral problems, concentration difficulties at school.
If you have had symptoms from early childhood, the likely possibility is hyperactivity.
However,if your symptoms developed a s an adult it is more likely to be bipolar disorder.
Medications for the two disorders are different.
Hyperactivity is treated with stimulants like methyl phenidine whereas bipolar disorder is treated with mood stabilizer like valproate, lamotrigine etc.
Taking stimulants while having bipolar can worsen the condition.
The common modality of treatment for both are cognitive behavioral therapy and psychotherapy.
I'd recommend that you try psychotherapy and behavioral therapy to see if it helps. You can also explore deeper into the sy.ptoms during psychotherapy which can help in pinpointing a definite diagnosis.

Please be advised to follow up with a psychiatrist and psychotherapist.

Can you have hyper as child, then develop bi as adult? because I have what I call black holes ( periods of brain turning "sour "on me...very scary and devastating...) they don't last long but are horrible. Never had these as child/teenager....that is why doc gave me lamotrigine...but I think I will go to a mental health doctor and have a more specific diagnosis done....

I know I was hyper as child....very smart but often sent to get discipline, had to have much activities to keep me occupied...talented but easily distracted....

And my legs jiggle constantly...lol...
