Suggest Treatment For Back Pain And Muscle Stiffness

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: I am now approaching the 1 year mark in continuing health issues and back pain. I have been tested for just about everything except for MS, Lyme Disease, and Mitochondrial Disease. I have lost ~30lbs and kept it off through hiking & exercise. After being released from Physical Therapy in ~ early September, I kept up with the daily stretching, conditioning, and walking/hiking. Had a ~1 week period of intense physical activity in Mid November and suffered a 1 weeks setback to due debilitating pain through the back & torso area. (abdomen included) Have been seeing deep tissue massage therapists weekly for three months. Just visited my PCP again and have been reassigned to PT. Felt ok during PT session yesterday afternoon, but have felt very badle all day at work and continuing into this evening. Was down to zero pain pills a day and am now back up to 2/day. (Norco 325-10) Have been continuing to take Robaxin for muscle spasms and using alternating cold gel pack/heat pad therapy, and with use of TIMS unit. Recent blod work came back with high Glucose Serum levels and am now adopting a diabetic diet. (Salads all week except for one burger...no condiments) Getting to a point of frustration & stress that is not a healthy addition to current situation. Would appreciate any insights you folks can provide. (Had bad H-Pylori infection in Dec-13/Jan-14...back & body pain followed shortly thereafter.)

Brief Answer:
Physiotherapy will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your problem is likely to be related to a muscle stiffness rather than an actual injury or spine related problem.
Regular exercise is the key element of such pain treatment plan. You may contact with Physiotherapist regarding this.

It includes 3 components: aerobic conditioning, stretching, and strengthening. The exercises are done through a controlled, progressive program to build more strong and flexible spine.
Start with the exercises gradually and do a hot compress at least thrice a day.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
