Suggest Treatment For Atrial Fibrillation And Discoordination On Left Side Of Body

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Apr 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with A-fib and the treatment has sent me on a downward spiral ever since. My left side is discoordinated and they have done mris on my skull neck and the assortment of heart and respiratory tests. They, the VA, has claimed that there is no way warfarin or the other meds could have caused this reaction. This deterioration has occurred over about nine months and I was in excellent physical shape at the time of the EKG, which was just a routine test. Thanks for looking over this. XXXXXXX

The answers to your follow up questions are no or none except the calcium test and as far as I know nothing unusual in the run of the mill blood tests. I can request that test and am scheduled to be in the health facility on the 15th.

Is this the correct way to answer your follow up issues?

Thank you, XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
What if it's not caused by meds?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back,

Well it was an unusual way of answering though, but it did the purpose .

According to your history , description and medicines you are taking, I believe this is not caused by medicine , though being a resident cardiologist myself, I know that in rare cases diltiazem can cause extrapyramidal symptoms but it is rare and need proper diagnosis to be called extra pyramidal,

Neither do i believe that hypocalcemia could be a cause, because it causes numbness..muscle spasms..;body aches and rarely causes disorientation which is usually bilateral not localized to one side

In my opinion. Your meds could have aggravated a hidden neurological problem ,There must be something neurological which has to be found.

There is a possibility of emboli flying off from atria during A-fib so warfarin is given these emboli may cause stroke but these stroke are visible in MRI,and they don't progress gradually over 9 months.

so in my opinion you have to visit a neurologist and he should try to diagnose the cause without really keeping in mind that your meds must have done it.

This problem should be dealt as an independent neurological problem then I believe it can be diagnosed.

I will suggest you to meet a neurologist too and also reuqest your vitamin b levels,Thyroid tests, etc and anything which neurologist think, can cause such symptoms. Lets take it as a neurological thing this time instead of a drug side effect..may be we will find something.

I can nt make blind diagnosis as almost every motor neurological issue can oresent like your symptoms and need proper examination and investigation to diagnose but i believe a good neurological work up can solve the puzzle.

I Hope this answers your question, if your have more queries feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it. Wish you the best of health.
