Question: Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

I had asked you a question on XXXXXXX 12th some time back regarding my son. You had diagnoised it as eczema or allergy. Even i met a dermitoligist. They also doubted it to be eczema. We are using the medicines they prescribed. Initially it got decreased. But again it started coming. Can you please explain what is the reason for this allergy. How we can mitigate these kind of problems. we heard from pediatrician that this might come again and again, is it true? Is this allergy can be developed as asthma?

How long it will take to cure. The medicines we are using is fine? or do you want to change any thing?

Brief Answer:
Avoid daily omnacortil

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing.
I understand that your child is going through a tough phase.
Eczema or atopic dermatitis can be very difficult to control. But that doesn't mean you can give omnacortil drops daily which is a oral steroid . Your doctor has already given you steroid ointment ( desowen ) . Oral steroids can be given along with this but only for 5 days maximum.

Rest of the treatment is fine. No problem.

What I also suggest my eczema patients is to get allergy testing done for Food specific IGE levels or allergen skin testing
This is done in few labs or allergy specialists in your city.
Identify the trigger factors by the test and avoid them. Without identifying this eczema is difficult to control, it will come again and again.
This will help in reducing her allergic response and will boost the effect of medications.
Usually eczema will settlle by around 3 to 5 years .
Few kids do become asthmatic but impossible to predict who will get it.

Wishing her speedy recovery.

Dr Arun

Hi Sir,

Thanks you once again for the quick and detailed reply. Is there any precautions we should take to avoid this from reoccurring and to get asthmatic?

I am not sure whether i can ask this question or not. But out of desperation, I need to ask it.
I heard from many people that taking homeopathy medicines for this kind of diseases is good for complete cure. What is your opinion? If its good to go with homeopathy how it will be suitable for small children of age 6 months.

How dangerous is to use steroid medicines. we had given omnacortil for 5 days (two times a day 0.5ml) will it be a problem?

Do you suggest any good pediatrician in bangalore?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Avoid allergens

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Precaution is allergen avoidance after allergy tests.
I cannot comment on homeopathy, but it is not curative for sure and nobody knows their side effects esp in 6 months.
I know Dr XXXXXXX in XXXXXXX He runs allergy asthma centre . He is the leading allergy specialist in the area . Google for address.
Don't worry 5 days of omnacortil shouldn't cause problems.

Dr Arun
