Question: Helo Doct,

Greetings of the day.
I am very very dishearten with by 1.5months old baby boy's skin. It started since he was of 15days or so. Seen more than 10doct since then, every doct said it atopic dermatitis. I understand in this care moisturiser is the must thing. I apply moisture on his skin 3-4times a day ( tried cruel itch defence, citaphil lotion, citaphil baby oil, parasoft lotion etc) every lotion doc advices but it doesn't work, I applied glycerin mixing with sweet almond or olive oil no work, it's appiears kind of round patches with small blisters kind n slowly slowly it spreads too. Too much itchy n red, all the back of his knee, elbow, little bit on stomach n back legs mostly suffers. So when I go to doc they gives momete lotion to apply on them and defcort/ Zyrtec/ receiving /atarax all works but d moment I stops the medicine again the rashes comes slowly slowly. I don't want to giv him all these steroid medicine for long periods. What shall I do. Please help

I m very much hurt with his pain, also this momete n dermitop lotion lefts white patches. And it is very difficult for me to visit doct every time as it's very costly n I belong to a middle class family.

Kindly prescribe something steroids less medicine n lotion which I can apply on his blisters n flares whenever occurs rather running after a doc n listen to the same thing .

Thanks n regards

Brief Answer:
Suggestion on eczema

Detailed Answer:
Hi... I sympathize with the kid and understand your concern. As a matter of fact even my kid had this when young.

The trick of the management is keeping the skin moist and never allowing it to be dry. For this oil massage and lotions like Atogla will help. Regarding cure options - eczema is a sort of allergy...allergies can only be controlled and can never be cured. But usually kids grow out of it...that is as the age progresses, they become better starting from 6 months.

Skin conditions are best diagnosed only after seeing directly. I suggest you to upload photographs of the same on this website, so that I can guide you scientifically.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Hi doct,

Thank you for your time, I understand the characteristics of this eczema, which can't be cured but to stop flares n rashes I keep applying lotion as I mentioned. I don't let his body to become dry. But still as soon as I stops his medicine after full course as per the doct the flares are ready to come back slowly slowly with the form of round patch and small small blister kind in between it. So what should I do? If the course of the medicine is done I can't use the same medicine again? N if I visit the doct again he will be given with some more medicine..........., likewise full month medicine n medicine which is not good for 15month of baby.

I request you to Advice few very good lotion and creams. And which massage oils( coconut oil doesn't work) is good for eczema? Advice me few less steroid medicine which I can use without contacting doct to stop his flares n rashes.

And yes any oral syrup? That can make us immunity strong ?

About the photographs, right at this moment he has no flares as we are under medication Defcort and atarax and demitop lotion. No body is clean. Just white patches left wherever the flares were worsen last week.

I will click the picture when the flares comes back and I will share with you.

Brief Answer:
After the current course - try what I am suggesting

Detailed Answer:
Hi....I understand your concern. After current medicine course, try what I am suggesting.

I too personally do not prescribe or suggest Steroid as topical application or oral medication because, in this particular condition, it's only going to give a temporary relief.

My Suggestions -

1. Do not stop topical emollients - I suggest Atogla lotion thrice a day for 6 months. If you feel it's not working, you can try liquid paraffin.

2. Use Tedybar soap and Spoo shampoo as they are mildest on skin.

3. You can give Levocetirizine, but it is only off label use....I am suggesting this keeping in mind the severity of your baby's eczema.... you can give Syrup Xyzal 2ml once a day continuously for 6 weeks. This is an anti-allergic and a prescription drug. So you will need a doctor's prescription for this.

None of the above medicines I have suggested contain Steroids, so do not worry.

There are no Syrups to increase the immunity. Basically this is not a problem related to immunity. This is an allergy related issue.

Hello Doctor,

Once again thank you so very much for ur brief reply

I have few more doubts after reading ur reply

First what should I do with the white patches left on the places where flares were occur but now gone with the use of dermitop lotion mometasone furoate? Will those white marks go with time? Or I should visit my doct for too??? Or you will advise something?
I hv attached few pics of those white patches left after the flares n blister gone cured with that dermitop. Pics might not b that clear as my baby moves a lot but hopefully u can see them all over his legs behind the knees, thighs everywhere.

1. I heard about Atogla lotion that it causes burning sensations to baby's skin ( reviews given by mums on google) but I have not used it, do you suggest me to give a try? My baby is only 15months old??
2. Liquid paraffin- one of my friend suggested me that, n I hv started applying this on my baby since 2days only. I have mixed liquid paraffin to parasoft milk lotion, I would like to know what does liquid paraffin do? What is the uses of this oil. Any side effects?? N why it is said not to use paraffin oil on baby's face n ear??? Is it dangerous??? Can I use liquid paraffin for long run if that suits, also can I mix paraffin with Atogla lotion for better results if that suits?
3. And the medicines you prescribed levocitrizine and it is only of lebel use means??? I did not get it sorry, please explain
4. About xyzal syrup what does it do?? I know I m bothering you but I m getting very brief n patiently replies from you on my baby's skin topic that I am full of questions. You won't believe I have studied so much on atopic dermatitis/ atopic eczema that whenever I have been subscribed any sort of medicine I keep searching on google to know more about the prescribed medicine, their uses, substance harmful or safe etc etc
Thank you so much that you prescribed me steroids free medicine but as you mentioned all needs prescriptions, I request you for the sake of my baby please send me a prescription on my email so that I can gets those medicine for my baby. Please please please

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on eczma

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... Coming to your queries one by one -

1. You need not do anything for the white marks. They will eventually go off by themselves.

2. I suggest you use Atogla. Do not mix anything to atogla lotion.

3. You can use liquid paraffin if atogla does not work. There are no serious side effects. But some Dermatologists believe that liquid paraffin if used on face can block the pores and cause acne.

4. If liquid paraffin suits your baby you can use it for long term. Do not mix anything to liquid paraffin.

5. Off label use means that this is not recommended indication or age. But I told this because, initially in your query you had typed the baby's age of 1.5 months. But now you say the baby is one and half years old. So this does not carry any importance.

6. Xyzal is an anti allergic medication and will decrease the pruritis or itching sensation for the baby and prevent flare ups.

7. Whatever we give on this forum or website is only a suggestion and it is not a prescription. So I am extremely sorry that I cannot provide you with a prescription without seeing the baby directly.

Regards - Dr. Sumanth
