Suggest Treatment For An Itchy Rash On The Back Of The Neck

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Aug 2016
Question: I have an itchy rash on the back of my neck. It may have been caused by the chain on my glasses which I wear around my neck. I have been using Sudacream but the rash is still very itchy and sore. The rash has been there for two weeks approx. I have stopped using the chain of course!

Brief Answer:
Try steroid cream.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I'm sorry to hear about the itchy rash. Without seeing the rash it is hard to say exactly what it is. If your eyeglass chain contained nickel or other metal and you are sensitive to it, this may have caused an allergic type of dermatitis.

Since the Sudocream hasn't helped adequately, consider using a low potency corticosteroid cream. In the US, a low dose hydrocortisone cream is sold at drugstores without prescription. This is safe if used for a couple of weeks. Corticosteroids decrease inflammation and itching.

However if that does not work, it is time to see your doctor.

Other possibilities for the cause of the rash include a fungal skin infection such as Ring Worm, in which case an anti fungal would be the thing to use. But if you definitely noticed a correlation with itching following use of a new chain, then use the steroid cream first.

I hope this information helps and you are feeling better soon!
