Suggest Treatment For An Enlarged Prostate
Question: I'm having prostate problems. I recently had a digital rectal exam along with an exam of my bladder. I now have severe constipation that can only be relieved with Milk Of Magnesia. Additionally, when I urinate I have moisture develop in my rectum. The doctor who examined my prostate said it was large and irregular. This is very uncomfortable but I'm wondering if I should be so concerned.

Based on the facts that your Dr who has carried out Digital Rectal Examination (DRE)and found your prostate to be enlarged and irregular strongly suspect it to be due Cancer of the Prostate and needs to be ruled out by doing MRI guided or Ultrasound guided multiscore biopsy of the Prostate .
I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) What is your Serum PSA levels?
2) Have you done ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and confirmed the DRE findings ?
3) Do you have obstructive voiding and irritative symptoms like frequency for urination ,nocturia,urgency or poor urine flow ?
Further modality treatment will depend upon result of the tests and final diagnosis.

In answer to your questions, here are my response(s).
1. My last prostate serum PSA level was 3.5
2. No scanning of my abdomen has been done. I do have an prostate ultrasound with biopsy scheduled for February 15th.
3. My voiding isi slow and uncomfortable (burning) The flow is both weak and slow and I can only go 30-40 minutes XXXXXXX without voiding.
4.I'm not normally constipated as I take Miralax daily. As soon as the burning and pain along with the urgency began, I became constipated. I've had only one bowel movement this week (Monday) and had to use Milk of Magnesia to provoke the movement.
I know the ultrasound will tell us a good deal of info but can't help but wonder about the symptoms while I wait the 2 weeks for the ultrasound.

Considering your normal PSA value and the symptoms that you have yo seem to have Benign Enlargement of Prostate which is consistent and common at this age .
Take Combination of Tomsulosin and Dutasteride once daily till you get your ultrasound and biopsy done This will help to improve urine flow and reduce frequency for urination .
Do write again once you get the results of Ultrasound and Biopsy
I would be able to make precise suggestions after going throgh report .
