Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I am allergic to pollen and after running especially around noon/early afternoon I start dry heaving and spitting out a lot of mucus. I have a track meet Thursday and I'm worried it will happen again, how can I avoid/cure it? I have tried Claritin and it didn't help.

Brief Answer:
Fexofenadine can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.
After reading your post, I would advise that you should take Fexofenadine 120 mg once a day. This can help you in relieving your symptoms. It is a prescription medicine. Avoid contact with allergens by covering your nose with a medical mask. Drink lots of water daily. Also take Vitamin C supplement daily.
I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Thanks.

Thank you for your quick and detailed response. Are there any over the counter medicines strong enough to relieve the symptoms? I can't wear a medical mask while I run but I can between races. I'm outside all day for my race so I don't think I can avoid contact with pollen.
