Suggest Treatment For Addiction To Pain Killers

Question: I have been on pain killers for 5 years due to several surgery so am so sick of my life I take about 10 loritabs or more a day I have cut down to 4 the last few days. I want off these things they are killing me I don't even know who I am anymore. I have hid this from my family I am so ashamed of myself I tried to tell my husband but I couldn't I don't want my family to think bad of me. Please tell me what to do

There is no need to be ashamed of this situation. I happy you have realized the harmful effects of excessive painkillers.
Here is what you should do

1. It is not possible to stop these tablets cold turkey as you might be physically dependent on them .
2. You will have to taper and stop these medications slowly, one tablet at a time
3. Many patients of mine were successful in coming off it without much difficulty
4. I recommend medical supervision during this phase of tapering as relapse into taking excessive amounts of painkillers is very high
5. I suggest you to meet a internal medicine physician for this. I usually taper 1 tablet every 2-3 day, so for you it could take well over a month to stop completely
