Question: I got a CT ABDOMEN WITH CONTRAST while in the hospital with acute pancreatitis. The findings that concern were "peripancreatic inflammatory changes are present" and "mild retroperitoneal fluid." I was discharged without any explanation of these results. I went and picked up my medical records today and found this information. Please reply!!!

Brief Answer:
They are normal findings in Acute pancreatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Pancreatitis is Infection and inflammation of Pancreas. The gland will be enlarged .
In few patients, surrounding tissues around Pancreas will also be affected and show features of Inflammation in CT scan.
Because of inflammation, there will be fluid collection in the vicinity of Pancreas. In severe cases, there will be Fluid in the entire abdominal cavity. As Pancreas is retro peritoneal (beneath the peritoneum )fluid is collected there and.is reported on CT.
Nothing to worry.
Please follow the prescription of your doctor.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
You should be checked regularly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
In my experience, majority of the patients recovered completely without complications.
But,you should get checked regularly. You should get an Ultrasound abdomen for any possible cyst formation and abscess .
If you are an Alcoholic, please avoid it completely as it is a major risk factor. Gall bladder stones is another risk factor which has to taken care of .
Nothing to worry as of now.
