Suggest Treatment For Acute Pain In Lower Left Abdomen

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Sep 2015
Question: I have chronic acute sharp pain on the left hand side of my lower abdomen. This has been going on for a few years. The pain is mild but frustrating as I know there is something not right
Sometimes the pain is accompanied with a constant ache on the matching side of my lower back
I have had a scan before as they thought it might be ovarian cysts but nothing at all showed up
Because the pain is not severe and doesn’t really affect my every day life I can ignore it but I’m worried there might be something more sinister
Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Can be colitis - please give feedback on details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

To recapitulate: Female/29 - few years history of pain left lower abdomen - sometimes matching side on lower back - mild but frustrating - scan normal - worried as thinking of something sinister going on or something is not alright ....

May I please know a few details for me to assist you better:
- Any problems with bowel like constipation or loose motions, bloating, twisting pain, nausea, vomiting?
- Any problem related to Urinary system?
- Any problem related to gyne side like menstrual periods and so on?
- Any relation to food, position, bending or so?
- Any other information you would like to share like marriage status, if married children etc.

From the history you have provided this looks to be more of a colitis problem.
Colitis can give back pain as a referred pain.
I would advise you the following:
Consult a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, actual examination of the abdomen and further investigations as felt necessary.
Tests of blood, urine and stool as routine.

Please give the feedback so that we can discuss further and try t get a clinical diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.

Detailed Answer:
Sincere thanks for a proper feedback.
With this the possibility of IBS is more.
I would advise you to go for further tests of colonoscopy, CT scan of the whole abdomen including the pelvis.
If these are normal, treatment can be guided on the lines of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Since the medicines for such a problem are prescription based I would advise you to get the investigations and prescription from your Doctor, preferably a General Surgeon as said earlier.
