Brief Answer:
To check for viral hepatitis and cholecystitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Based on your symptoms I would like to check for viral hepatitis, cholecystitis (gall bladder inflammation)
I recommend :
-a physician consult right away
- ultrasound abdomen
-blood tests (complete blood count, liver function tests, kidney function tests, amylase, lipase, clotting parameters)
-urine analysis

Based on the clinical findings and test results, treatment will be initiated.

-avoid alcohol
-avoid medications without the consent of his doctor.
-avoid oily, fried and spicy foods.
-take bland diet with liquid or semi solid consistency and which is light on the stomach.
-drink plenty of water (unless contraindicated by coexisting medical illnesses).

If he develops high fever or severe abdominal pain, any change in level of consciousness, please visit the ER right away.
The itching is probably due to the elevated levels of bilirubin and needs to be flushed out.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you both good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
