Suggest Treatment For A Red And Irritated Bunion Along With Cyst

default
Posted on Tue, 9 May 2017
Question: I have a bunion that has a cyst at the bottom, the size of a nickel. It is red and irritated but no pain. I am 86, and will not consider any bunion surgery. This has affected my walking, and life in general. How do I treat this at home? I went to a podiatrist yesterday and she gave me no advice at all. Thanks for any advice from you.
In what ways can I treat this? Will the cyst have to be drained by a podiatrist?

Did I indicate that the bunion is at the bottom of my right large toe?

Brief Answer:
use padding, get S Uric Acid and drainage if infected.

Detailed Answer:
Hi , I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon,

In case you do not want any surgery, then I suggest that you get your S Uric Acid and start using Padding / Silicone pads under the great toe . This will avoid any direct weight bearing and reduce pain. If S uric acid is high, then medicines will control it.
In case cyst in infected , then it needs drainage and a course of antibiotics.

Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.

Repeat question, did I indicate that the cyst is a the bottom of my right large toe?

Thank you, I will get S.Uric Acid from my drug store, and start using padding. What is S. Uric Acid? Do I apply it to my toe? I have no pain, and the cyst is not infected - yet. This is what I want to avoid! Will the cyst disappear on its own? Should I avoid my daily 25 minute walk?

Did you get my follow-upquesitons?

Brief Answer:
S Uric Acid is a blood test.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.

S Uric Acid is a blood test to see the level of uric acid in blood. It is frequently associated with swelling round Great toe. If it is raised, then reducing the levels with specific medicines will help.
Yes, I got all your follow up questions.
