Suggest Treatment For A Painful Lump On The Buttocks

Question: Painful lump on the inside of butcheeck. Dr had put me on Symbicort a week before the lump appeared, I stoped taking the meds when the lump appeared. I can't sit on it, I have to sit on the opposite side. Laying down is the only relief. Went to see my family dr and he said it could be a cyst and putme on ceva-tefalaxin 1 pill 4x a day for 10 days. Only on day three of the meds and it doesn't appear to be getting better. Pain might be getting a little worse.

To look at the area there is no visible marks, or redness or discolouration. Can only feel the lump when touched. And can feel it because of the pain.

Brief Answer:
It seems like you are having an abscess which may need drainage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

What you are describing seems like an abscess which may have been a cyst which now is infected.

Abscess is a formation filled with pus. The pus may spread the infection in your body. In order to heal it needs to be drained. Antibiotics work very little, so that is why they didn't work, even if it is a very good medicine.

My suggestion is that you go to your doctor again (or to the ER) and tell him that the lump is not better by worse. He will know immediately that the antibiotics wont help anymore and that the abscess will need drainage.

Meanwhile, apply hot compresses over the lump.
Take a painkiller for the pain.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Brief Answer:
It can wait if it is not that painful and if you do not have fever.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

If you don't have fever, and if it is not that painful, it can wait. It is not an emergency.

Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Brief Answer:
Take a painkiller.

Detailed Answer:
Take a painkiller, which will help with the pain.

Also, as advised above, you can use hot compressed in the painful area, which will prevent the pus from spreading around and make it prone to drain on the outside.

Dr. Papaqako
