Suggest Treatment For A Bruise On The Knee

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jun 2017
Question: My friend hit his knee very hard about a week and a half ago. It was terribly bruised at the site and he tends to have lumpy feeling veins there. However over the last week the bruise looks like it is spreading up his leg and appears to be following a squiggly pattern like a vein. It seems to be more lumpy up the leg now too. He doesn't have health insurance and isn't sure what to do.

Brief Answer:
Color doppler

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.
I appreciate that your friend needs a low cost - effective treatment.
Initially he can negotiate for a color doppler of the leg to check there is no complications that are already set in. Once we rule out there is no involvment of vessels and bone is not fractured, the treatment is mainly conservative.
A crepe bandage with proper medicines would help him recover. Of course rest and icing would help too.
First head to an urgent clinic to check if the pulses distal to the injury are felt, bone is intact who would recommend a color doppler then. The urgent clinic would not charge more than $25 to 50.
I am not sure about the cost for doppler and I am sure any diagnostics would give a cash discount up to 60% if you negotiate.
Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
