Suggest Treatment For PACS And PVCs

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jun 2014
Question: I just have a question about skipped beats. I've had pvc and pacs in the past. after a full work up, I was told my heart is structurally fine and they were just benign. At what point are they problematic? There are times (especially when I'm very tired) where I'll get 5 in a minute. The same thing happens when I try to go to sleep. I wasn't put on beta blockers because my doctor said they can cause more problems. I'm a 30 year old female with no other major problems. thanks

Brief Answer:
If they cause debilitating symptoms!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this PACS and PVCs that you have reported. I support your doctor in saying they are completely benign and need no treatment. How often they appear is no reason for treatment. However, should they cause any symptoms, there would be need for them to be controlled.

They become problematic not by their frequency but by the symptoms they cause like easy fatigability, blood clots,, failing heart, etc. Unless you have real justifications to start treatment, treating patients with no other symptoms has no evidence based backings. We would rather be exposing you to the side effects of these medications with no proven benefits in clients with no symptoms.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications should need be.
