Suggest Treatment For IBS

Question: I have been bloated and have stomach pain for 2 days now. I have been to the bathroom and was several times on Wednesday, not today yet but feel like I need to and I feel gassy but nothing. I almost feel like I'm blocked. I have had bright red blood in stools in the recent past but passed it off as it being hard to pass and have not noticed anything like that for a couple of weeks now. I have tried a anti gas otc pill with no results. I feel like I look about 7 months pregnant and I'm not pregnant. I feel like it gets worse as the day goes on and then starts over the next morning. After I eat something it just extends and gets worse throughout the day. I have changed my diet in the last couple of months, but I changed it from mostly junk food to more fruits and veggies and completely cut sugary drinks out of my diet. Yet, I have not lost any weight and my stomach is just growing. I don't know if this could have anything to do with it or not but I use to smoke and a little over a year ago I switched to vapes.

Brief Answer:
Needs work up likely IBS

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

i read your question and i understand your concern. Bloated and abdominal distension with a history of blood in stools is a gastroenterological ailment and needs further work up to proceed and find the etiology behind the bleeder. Once the source of this blood in stools is found then the rest is easily manageable. Likely suspicion is of a functional bowel disease like IBS.

You have started a good initiative of modifying your diet. Regarding bloating you should know that When gas doesn't pass through belching or flatulence, it can build up in the stomach and intestines and lead to bloating. With bloating, you may also have abdominal pain that can vary from mild and dull to sharp and intense. Passing gas or having a bowel movement may relieve the pain.

Bloating may be related to:

Eating fatty foods, which can delay stomach emptying and make you feel uncomfortably full
Drinking carbonated beverages or eating gassy foods
Eating too quickly, drinking through a straw, chewing gum or sucking on candies, resulting in swallowing air
Stress or anxiety
Smoking
A gastrointestinal infection, blockage or disease
Irritable bowel syndrome, a condition characterized by abdominal pain or cramping and changes in bowel function
Conditions such as celiac disease or lactose intolerance in which the intestines aren't able to digest and absorb certain components of food
To reduce bloating, it may help to avoid or reduce the amount of gas-producing foods you eat. Many carbohydrates cause gas, and the following items are common culprits:

Beans
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage
Carbonated drinks
Cauliflower
Chewing gum
Fruits, such as apples, peaches and pears
Hard candy
Lettuce
Milk and milk products
Onions
Sugar alcohols found in sugar-free foods (sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol)
Whole-grain foods

I hope it helps. Consult your gastroenterologist for further management,

Regards
Khan
