Brief Answer:
Cefpodoxime causes GI Superinfections

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

IBS and cefpodoxime induced GI Symptoms are totally different

Cefpodoxime induced GI Symptoms would not persist this long, so apparently there are chances you have IBS

1]Avoid any eatables which aggravate symptoms till you come to a diagnosis
2]Rice and curd are good for GI Disturbaces
3]Stress management is a part of treatment for IBS if exercise works continue
4]Should get controlled if IBS is managed, but always better to rule out GI infection - Get a stool report along with culture done
5]Stool report will rule it out but is unlikelly
6]Sure Take Normaxin for six weeks and a probiotic twice a day for six weeks
7]Normaxin is good for IBS please continue
8]Refer point 6

Get back to me with stool report
If this does not work we might need to go for a CT abdomen to rule out any TB stricture as your symptoms in point no 2 can be attributed to partial obstruction of the gut

Hope this helps

hello dr,

1) i hv done atleast 10 to 12 stool reports in the beginning of this but they were normal... also did culture report which was normal..
2) at the end of my att i hv done PET ct scan( around 1 year back) as i was having weakness fever etc... but that was also normal... my fever and weakness is gone now for 1 year...
3) can you suggest any probiotic...
4) should i visit.. gastroenterologist in my city...

Brief Answer:
Yes you should see a gastroentrologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi Thanks for writing in again

It is good the stool report is normal

If PET is normal I think we can rule out a stricture

Actigut/Magnipro are good probiotics

A clinical examination will help, but you may give Normaxin and a probiotic a trial for few weeks

Hope this helps

Brief Answer:
It is all about the patient wanting to treat himself

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your followup

This is classic of IBS

It is the willingness of the patient to get treated that helps the doctor treat the patient, yes I have seen patients coming out of it but the proportion is not very high as a good number of them have relapses when they succumb to stress again

Unfortunately patients are not satisfied with any form of treatment and they keep on changing doctors which leads to repetition of the tests etc

As I said try the treatment for some weeks and if it does not work see a gastroentrologist

Regards
