Posted on Sat, 14 Nov 2015
Question: Hello. After giving birth, 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto. Its been since then that I take 100 mg of eutirox. I am very sad If I think that I have to take this pill all my life because I often have fast heart beating and sometimes I fell anxious. I am reading that I can cure Hashimoto disease if I eat a special diet and by using some omeopatic therapy. Please can you tell me something more? Can It be reversible or I have to take the pill all my life? Is that pill dangerous? Thank you. Kind Regards!

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

Hashimoto thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder, which means that your immune system produces anti-bodies against thyroid cells. This causes inflammation and destruction of the affected cells and thyroid gland doesn't produce anymore the necessary amount of thyroid hormones. The cause why the immune system attacks thyroid gland,is unknown.
The thyroid gland doesn't have the ability to regenerate the damaged cells. For this reason Hashimoto is a life-long disease.
The treatment consist in supplementing with synthetic thyroid hormones. You will need this treatment for the rest of your life.
Significant side effects from taking Levothyroxine are very rare and unlikely to happen. You will take the pill at the right dose for you (considering the level of thyroid hormones in blood) ,so it won't be dangerous.

A special diet and homeopathic therapy won't treat or cure this condition because in this condition ,thyroid gland is unable to produce enough thyroid hormones. The only treatment is to take these hormones in a pill every day.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.

Thank you for your response. I see that I have to take levothyroxine for the rest of my live and as far I can see this will not harm me? Another question that I have is if there is XXXXXXX possibility that after suffering from Hashimoto I am more alergic from different medication or food. Because I was not alergic before from antibiotic and after birth I was abd I am scared now that any medicine may cause me this body reaction. Thank you again.

Hello again.

Taking Levothyroxine for the rest of your life won't harm you.Side effects are rare.
Having hashimoto thyroiditis doesn't make you more allergic to drugs.Probably this was the first time that you took that antibiotic ,which caused the allergic reaction.
You don't need to worry.

Take care.
