Suggest Treatment For GERD

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Aug 2017
Question: I am 53, currently have GERD and Rhumatoid Artheritis conditions. Have recently had a full heart screening and was told all ok but was recommended to take a 2 week course of aspirin and rosuvastatin.I am a little worried about the outcome/side effects of this as I work away from home and alone. Is this a good balance prescription to assist with any heart or blood pressure issues ?The other issue I have currently, is also related to respiration, particularly on summer evenings , usually after falling asleep and during summer evenings, I find myself waking up short of breath and feeling panic. The blockage is usually around the nasal passage. The nasal passage feels furry, thick and prevents my breathing capacity. This means that I pace around getting increasingly panicky and calms down within an hour or two, allowing me to get back to sleep unaided.
This was a periodical thing every year for about 10 years but now it has began to increase...what is this do you think ? Allergy ? Stress ? ....what do you think and what can I do to solve this ?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
xxxxx

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Rouvastatin is one of the better medications for high cholesterol and aspirin is very helpful to prevent clots and reduce the chance of heart disease (heart attack, heart failure) and stroke.

In terms of side effects, as with all medications , side effects occur with the minority not the majority.
Most persons using statins, worry about liver disease and muscle injury. Statins can cause muscle pain in approximately 12.7% (12 out of 100) of persons who use them and joint pain in 10.1% .

If this pain occurs (and does not occur in most persons), it stops when the medication is discontinued. This means that even if you do experience pain, it is not permanent

In 0.01% to 0.1% of persons ( 1 out of 1000 to 1 out of 10 000), there can be an increase in liver enzymes, these are bloods used to assess the liver. Again this decreases if the medication is stopped, there is no permanent damage

Abdominal pain, nausea and constipation can occur in 1 to 10% of persons.

It is possible , since effects occur in the minority not the majority, that you may not have any effects at all.

In terms of aspirin, it can sometimes irritate the stomach but using it with food or using enteric coating aspirin would help with this

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
