Suggest Treatment For GERD And Acid Reflux

Posted on Wed, 8 Mar 2017
Question: Hi! I've had acholasia for 14 yrs.......it took 8 yrs to finally diagnose. I had surgery at age 47, the permanent fix, I was told. Go on to live a normal life! Never told to recheck.....just live. Now I could eat! Now at age 61, I am going for a scope and am petrified. What is the usual outcome with this? Also, I never did then, or now have gerd or acid reflux. I also have my sphincter......in tact. Thankyou.

Thankyou so much....I do feel better. So many years of this....it's nice to know that not having excessive acid will help me along. (Just have to learn to eat slower!) then maybe I will feel more comfortable while eating. Have a great night.

Brief Answer:
You shouldn't be alarmed or worried.

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks for contacting us at healthcare magic.

I have reviewed your information fully and extremely happy that you benefited form surgery. This is the best approach and has up to 85% success rate even 10years after the initial surgery.

So why a follow up endoscopy? This is to look for signs of acid reflux that over a long time might become a risk factor for cancer. Because you have never had acid reflux, this will most likely not show any abnormal findings. This is because only excess acid reflux into the oesophagus constitutes this risk.

That is why there is nothing to be afraid of. Am sure after the endoscopy you will receive further reassurance that will put your mind further at ease.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me and demand for more information and clarifications if need be. I look forward getting updates after the scope.

Kind regards and wish you a very safe and friendly procedure.

Brief Answer:
Thanks and look forward hearing from you after the visit/procedure!
