Hello,

it could be a urinary tract infection or a stone (or other kind of obstruction). A urinalysis and perhaps an ultrasound scan of the urinary tract would be required for the diagnosis. Your doctor should examine you and determine how the investigation should proceed. If it's an infection then antibiotics will be prescribed.

Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
investigation required

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the additional info!

If there's no infection, then other causes will have to be sought. If your urine volume is very high then causes like diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus and hypercalcemia might have to be considered. If your urine volume is normal or low then obstruction of the urinary tract or inflammation in the urinary tract may cause this symptom. For example a stone in close to the bladder may cause urgency. Tumors in the bladder (papillomas) or the upper urinary tract may also cause symptoms of obstruction (including urgency).

I would start with an ultrasound scan of the urinary tract. Depending on the results and symptoms more radiological tests might be required. A CT scan would be a great test to more accurately identify various problems in the urinary tract. Blood tests like glucose, calcium and urine tests for specific gravity might provide additional clues to the diagnosis.

I hope you find my comment helpful!

Do you think it could be prostate cancer?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis (3 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
it would be unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Although various causes ate possible, I doubt that prostate cancer has anything to do with it. Your age and the symptoms make it less likely as a cause.

Brief Answer:
I can't say without testing

Detailed Answer:
I've suggested some serious causes already! Investigation will determine the diagnosis. In a young individual like you the causes are usually less serious than in older individuals.

I have ibs.. Do you think i could have something to do with it? E.g overactive bladder? t
doctor
Answered by Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
it could

Detailed Answer:
IBS can be related to your urgency but the organic causes will have to be excluded first. If the radiological assessment is negative then functional causes of the bladder and intestine might be considered.

I did have full blood tests 3 months ago checking organ functionality etc.. They also came back clear..
doctor
Answered by Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
that's great but you still have to do the radiological tests

Detailed Answer:
It's very good that your tests were OK. The radiological tests cannot be substituted though, so you still have to do at least an ultrasound scan. More tests might be needed depending on the ultrasound scan results.

Kind regards!
