Suggest Remedy For Toenail Infection, Chest Pain And Tingling Sensation In Tongue

Question: Hi

I have a question. I have an ingrown toenail infection that started about four to five days ago. I went to see the doctor yesterday, and she gave me bactrim. I read the side effects and was concerned so I didn't want to take it but I did. I started having some chest pain, tounge tingling, and pressure in my head. I called the dr and they told me to go to urgent care which I did. Urgent care said that it might have been an adverse reaction, so they gave me keflax. My main dr told me to stop bactrim and take keflax. I took that and had similar symptoms. I think that maybe i was concerned about taking the backrim after reading the side effects and the symptoms were stress related. I have a follow up appointment tomrrow. can an ingrown toenail infection spread and kill you in like four to five days? should I go to the er or something immediately or will I make it till tomorrow? I took bacrim once yesterday and a keflax today.

Brief Answer:
You can wait until tomorrow for your appointment

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Bactrim contains sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim and is an antibiotic medicine. Many people have adverse effects after taking bactrim and that is why the use of this medicine is to bye stopped if there are any side effects.

2. Keflex is cephalexin which is an antibiotic from the cephalosporin group. This is a relatively safer antibiotic and causes less adverse effects.

3. If you are having the same symptoms after taking both medicines then it can be a side effect or an anxiety induced symptom after taking the medicines. This requires a clinical examination and detailed evaluation.

4. An ingrown toe nail cannot spread and kill a person in 4 to 5 days therefore you can wait for the follow up appointment for tomorrow.

5. Meanwhile you can apply neosporin ointment on the toe nail to avoid and external infection. If there is pain then you can take any over the counter pain reliever as recommended.

Hope your query is answered.
