default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: I have a sore throat, but it doesnt just feel sore. It almost feels scratched. It hurts a lot when I swallow and feels like it is getting worse day to day. Its been hurting since Friday. Its only on one side, in one spot. About one inch to the left and up from my adam's apple. Occasinally, the pain shoots up to my ear. I cant go to a doctor until tomorrow at earliest, and this is really bothering me. Any idea what it is or what to do?

Do you have high temperature, muscles ache or lethargy, headache, cough and runny nose. In meanwhile take an over the-counter painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen. Drink plenty of fluids, drink warm liquids, gargle with warm salt water or suck on ice chips. Take enough restvand eat a healthy diet. Eat semi solid food and avoid crunchy and spicy food. Do gargle with chlorhexidine 6-8 times per day. Take cetrizine if symptoms of running nose. You need to take antibiotics like levofloxacin or amoxicillin for 7-10 days. You will require to get ASO Strep test or throat swab to the lab for a culture test. See your doctor.

I dont have a fever or cough. I have been feeling tired as of today. And gave been developing a headache. I did get an endoscopy with biopsydone on Wednesday of last week and was wondering if this was somehow related, but it seems strange that it would take two days to develop.

Brief Answer:
Bacterial infection like pharyngitis/ tonsillitis

Detailed Answer:
I understand your problem.

Your symptoms suggest that you are having upper respiratory tract infection like pharyngitis or tonsillitis. It is probably due to bacteria like Streptococcus. Get swab test done. As there is no cough so no involvement of lower respiratory tract. If you have headache analgesic will be helpful. If your biopsy shows nothing then it is unrelated. Take treatment as advised.

Take care.
