Suggest Remedy For Sinus Tachycardia And Anxiety

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Feb 2015
Question: I've had stomach issues (possibly ulcer?) over the years. A 2week round of prilosec usually clears it up. Ive recently discovered that this may also be the source of symptoms of sinus tachycardia and anxiety, as they are often concurrent symptoms. Is the H Pylori test in order? If so, which test is most reliable? Also, is testing for hiatal hernia appropriate?

Brief Answer:
Folloing diagnostic&treatment strategy for ulcer/hiatal hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

All your symptoms are related to possible ulcer. The most common cause of ulcer is H.pylori. That's why I recommend to run upper endoscopy and biopsy testing to detect H.pylori. Another recommended test is breathing test for H.pylori.

In case it will be confirmed, the treatment will include:
- antibiotics for around 10 to 14 days
- PPIs up to 6-8 weeks
- domperidone to ease bloating
- probiotics to optimize intestinal flora

With regards to hiatal hernia, I advise to run:
- upper endoscopy
- examination with barium contrast at Trendelenburg position

for further evaluation.

Hiatal hernia itself is often associated with acid reflux. Altogether, they might cause sinus tachycardia and anxiety symptoms. The above mentioned treatment with PPIs will alleviate your symptoms.

It is also important to run changes in your diet and lifestyle regimen:
- avoid caffeinated drinks
- avoid alcohol
- avoid oily/chilly/spicy foods
- sleep with raised head
- eat often, small portions and chew up slowly

All the best!
Dr.Klerida
