Brief Answer:
Ramipril could cause increased cough as an adverse effect.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank your for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that Ramipril could cause increased cough as a common adverse effect (up to 10 % of the patients experience this adverse effect).

The fact that you have noticed these symptoms after doubling the dose of ramipril is a strong argument in favor of this cause.

From the other hand, an increased mucus and cough could also be related to other disorder like : an upper respiratory tract infection, a sinus infection, an allergy reaction, etc.

What is the color of your mucus? Is it just normal mucus or any other color?

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a chest x ray study and a sputum bacterial culture (especially if your mucus has changed its color) and complete blood count.

If all these tests result normal you should discuss with your attending physician the possibility of switching from ramipril to an ARB class drug (losartan, valsartan, etc.), which act with a similar mechanism, but do not cause cough as a side effect.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need.

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri
