Question: Back keeps going out and I don't want to get a cortisone shot again, but prednisone works. Im traveling and don't want to wait in ER for a scrip

obviously the er but early morning 4 am to 10 am tends to not be so many people.
an "ER-like substance" these are acute care centers. believe me if you go in say you have back pain and that you do NOT want narcotics you will brighten up their entire week!
having a primary care physician. This includes some video chat systems that can prescribe. You need to be from the same state as the doctor answering the call (maryland in this case). Getting one on short order on some doctor websites and doctor services such as zocdoc.
Non-steroidals like orudis or naproxyn have some of the properties of steroids and kick in more rapidly.
This would seem to cover most options.
cannot say in your particular case. back pain can be something serious (although if it is identical to previous situations and nothing terrible has happened with years of back pain. this seems highly unlikely).
