Suggest Remedy For Recurrent Pimple In Nostril

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: Hi, I have a tiny reoccurring spot/pimple in my right nostril. Had it for years it comes and goes on its own always in the same place. It will be sore for a couple of days then forms a scab and goes away. Then maybe a couple of months later seems to reappear. My ENT says its maybe a blocked or scarred folicle that plays up. Can I do anything to make this stay away for good? I do sometimes pick my nose. Is this just a harmless annoyance?

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at HealthCareMagic

According to your history you seem to be having recurrent furunculosis. It is a recurrent bacterial infection of the hair follicles basically due to carriage of staphylococcal bacteria in the nostrils.
To prevent it from occurring I recommend my patients to take tablet RIFAMPICIN 600 mg daily in the morning for 10 days along with application of Mupirocin ointment in both the nostrils for atleast 8 weeks. This will prevent recurrence.
Prior to start Rifampicin, you need o check into your local physician , as you will need to have a liver function test beforehand.

Rifampicin causes orange discoloration of sweat/urine so if you see any don't panic.
You should avoid picking your nose as it helps spread of infection.

These are prescription medicines and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

I hope to have answered your query.

Wish you good luck.

Thank you. Is this type of thing common and is it common for it to come back in the exact same place? The ENT person said that maybe it was a scar blocking hair follicles coming through and causing it, could that be the case?

Brief Answer:
Yes recurrent furunculosis is common but not at the same place

Detailed Answer:
Yes it is very common though its occurence at the same place is not that common. Regarding the scar blocking the follicles, it is also rare.
