Posted on Tue, 1 Dec 2015
Question: During my routine doctor check last week I was diagnosed with extremely low potassium levels. I have increased my potassium to 4 tabs per day. I have been feeling extremely fatigued, muscle aches, etc. I have also when I woke up a few days it felt like I was walking on huge cushions on my heels (both) couldn't really feel them.. Also I just took a hot shower and just about passed out. I am sitting down now and cooling off, but am experiencing chest pain and nausea. This will go away shortly but are these things associated with low potassium or my problems with Lupus, RA and numerous other autoimmune problems

Brief answer....it appears that low potassium levels have aggravated your existing autoimmune problems
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
I feel that your low potassium levels have exacerbated your existing auto immune problems like muscle aches and fatigue.
As far as chest pain and nausea is concerned, they seem to be due to gastritis ( stomach inflammation ) . Potassium tablets are known to cause nausea and acidity.
My advice to you would be take potassium tablets immediately after meals and add some proton pump inhibitor like PANTOPROZOLE 40 mg once a day on empty stomach in morning. In addition take coconut water, citrus fruits, banana etc which are potassium rich.
If your chest pain doesn't go away after taking PANTOPROZOLE,then you can consult your octor for ruling out any heart involvement.
Once your potassium levels are normalised you should be benefitted substantially.
I hope it helps however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
