Suggest Remedy For Pain During Intercourse And Bending Of Penis

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: I have recently noticed in the past two months that my penis is beginning to point to the left. It is rather dramatic to the point that I can feel the bend when it is erect. I looked this up on line and it appears that a penis that points to the left is not uncommon; however this has been rather sudden and it is extremely noticable both visually and by touch. It is also interfering with intercourse in that it is slightly painful for both my wife and I. Is this simply something that occurs? I am 55 years old.

Brief Answer:
Nothing too concerning, just the formation of scar tissue that causes this

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. What you seem to be developing is Peyronie's disease which is the development of scar tissue. I wouldn't worry too much about this because it is nothing serious, but the most concerning part of the condition is the difficulty you face in penetrating your partner, and the slight pain you experience while doing so.

The treatment approach is usually either by medication (only one medication is available) or by surgery (but only if the curvature is gradually worsening, or the symptoms become more frustrating for the individual). The medication available is collagenase clostridium histolyticum.

So please speak to your doctor about this, especially if this is becoming a cause for concern for you and your wife. I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Thank you for your reply. Is this medication designed to prevent the condition from worsening or will the medication assist in straightening the penis?
Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It works towards doing both sir, a little bit of both

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

It usually helps and works towards doing both, preventing further progression and helping to improve the condition. But it does not always work towards a 100% recovery, and in such cases surgery is considered sir.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to write to me again, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Dr.
Can the condition worsen? Your initial comment states that I may be developing this disease which implies to me that it can worsen. Furthermore, you also state that surgery is possible if the condition gradually worsens which also implies that it can worsen. So I guess that answers my question. I also looked up the medication referred to as Xiaflex. It appears that the side effects can be pretty severe. Do you happen to know what percentage of the population of men suffer from this disease? Is it common or uncommon. Currently the psychological effect is much worse than the discomfort. Lastly, what type of physician/specialist would treat this type of disease?
Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
All questions addressed sir, please do read carefully :)

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

Yes sir, it can worsen.

Yes, xiaflex is the same medication I mentioned in my first response, containing collagenase clostridium histolyticum.

Percentage of men can vary from one region to another, but ranges between 0.5 % to 13 % of the male population.

I completely understand sir, and I would recommend consultation with a general surgeon and/or a urologist. Usually a urologist works towards solving the issue, but a general surgeon is also brought into the loop to take care a few other details, especially when surgery is being considered.

I hope I have explained everything in a manner best understood by you sir. Please do not ever hesitate to write to me, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
