Suggest Remedy For Nasal Congestion And Swollen Lymph Node
Question: Hi there. I'm currently taking 20mg citalopram daily. I have very painful nasal congestion with swollen lymph nodes everywhere (even behind my knees); is there any safe over the counter decongestant I can take? I am wondering about a drug interaction between citalopram and pheniramine maleate (20mg) and phenylephrine hydrochloride (10mg). I assume that acetaminophen and ibuproohen (taken sparingly) are relatively safe, but I can't breathe out of my nose, and steam isn't helping. Thank you!

They are not decongestant.
You can use nasal decongestant drops to relieve nose block.
Steroid nasal spray also are very useful. But this is prescribed medication.
I suggest you nasal saline drops which is available over the counter. Instill 2 drops in each nostril as many as times. Steam inhalation will help you.

Yes, the ibuprophen is for the moderate pain associated with the lymph node swelling (as well as fever). Neti pot (flushing with saline) has been tried as well as steam but I am still too congested to breathe through my nose, and so cannot fall asleep. Is there a dangerous drug interaction between my antidepressant medication (SSRI) citalopram 20mg, and pheniramine maleate (20mg) and phenylephrine hydrochloride (10mg) which are found in my over-the-counter oral decongestant?
