Suggest Remedy For Lump In Throat

Posted on Thu, 31 Dec 2015
Question: My daughter who is 15 has small bumps in the back of her throat. She has had them for some time now. When we first noticed them we had a swab done to check for strep. Even thought she was not ill and they caused he no pain. The test was negative. We were told it should clear up in time. There are not as many now but they are still there. They don't bother her at all. A few days before she found them she had gotten her braces off and new retainers. Could it be a sensitivity to the plastic in the retainers?

Brief Answer:
No worries

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Lump at the back of throat with normal swab results and history of recent dental intervention is likely a tonsillar / lymphoid tissue inflammation. There is a variation also in different people of the tissue prominence. If your daughter is free of symptoms like sore throat, cough or any other swallowing difficulty then no medication needed. Plastic and retainer like any other oral cavity invasion can lead to inflammation and swelling of this tissue. Salt water gargles and some ibuprofen will help. No worries. Its perfectly benign and self resolving.

I hope it helps. Take good care of your daughter and yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

Okay. Thank you. They have been there a about a year now. Or about a year from the time we noticed them But she has only felt them once, which was them first time she became aware of them. She was not ill and they did not bother her after a few days. But they are still present and 2 different dentists did not know what it was either.

As i mentioned variations are possible in prominence of these lymphoid tissues and should not be a matter of concern. Just ignore them. They mean no harm. I hope it helps.
