Question: Hi. I have something grown just above the anus. It is discharing some liquid which smells very bad. It is also discharing blood most of the time. I feel like scratching it most of the time.

I am having piles for more than 7 years. I can feel the piles coming outside from the anus. Thats not paining.

This new buldge just above the anus is paining a lot. It feels different from piles.

What should i do? Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Most likely pilonidal sinus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to pilonidal sinus. This is infection in the cleft between buttock cheeks just above anus.

I you send a close picture of it then it will be more helpful in identifying.

For this antibiotic therapy will be required. But usually antibiotic therapy alone won't be helpful. Incision and drainage of sinus should be done for proper healing. For this you can approach a general surgeon. It is done as an out patient procedure under local anesthesia.

Hair follicle infection or constant accumulation of sweat and dirt or vitamin deficiencies can be the cause of this. Taking vitamin C regularly in dose of 100 mg is good to prevent this.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Looks like you have detected the right problem. When should I visit the doctor? Is there any risk factor associated with the treatment? I am really worried.

Also, which kind of doctor to visit? What's the approximate price for the treatment.

Brief Answer:
You can consult a general surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

You can consult a general surgeon now. If general surgeon is not available then you can go to GP. Risk is more if it is not treated. Then it will get infected and smelly discharge and pain continues.
If it is beginning it could be a simple cyst and it can be excised easily and can do primary closure. If infection is extensive then after excision the would won't be closed at once. That case you should go for dressing regularly.

The cost of treatment depends upon the place you live. If you live in US and you have insurance it will be covered by insurance. But with out that doctors office procedure can cost upto 500 dollars or more. In XXXXXXX this procedure can be done within 100 dollars in corporate hospitals and free of cost in government hospitals.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Ok. Thanks. I live in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Will this treatment affect existing piles condition? Earlier piles used to bleed and pain a lot. Since last year, piles are not paining but they are there.

Brief Answer:
It wont affect your piles.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

This treatment doesn't affect your piles. You can treat your piles with easing constipation and avoiding straining while defeacation. For this taking stool softeners will be helpful. You can use softovac which isa non habit forming stool softener.

While consulting your surgeon you can show the piles also.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
