Suggest Remedy For Foul Odour From The Penis

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: My penis has a fishy odor at times, my girlfriend had mentioned that she was recently diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, I'm not sure if she got it from me or vice versa. I would like to clean my penis from this bacteria and smell. How can I do that? I've read online cleaning properly between all folds and crevices is a great way to start. I feel like I already do that well. What else can I do? I've also read online that using either Man1 Man Oil or washing the penis with Listerine mouthwash can help. Is that accurate?

Listerine etc not recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic.

I have gone through the details.
If your partner is diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, treating her is more important. It is mainly a disease of females.
Treatment of males is usually not recommended.

You can clean the area with warm water twice daily.
Wear loose cotton inner wears.
You can use condoms.
Mouth rinse, etc are not recommended, it may cause irritation. There has been no research done on Man1 Man Oil. So better avoid it.
Check if there are any lesions in the area or fungal infection.
You can get back for any clarification.
Thank you

Thank you for responding Dr. Basti. In regards to your question about any lesions in the fungal area, I have noticed that I have gotten these small little bumps underneath the skin of my penis head. After noticing them I went to get tested for stds and the tests came back negative. My girlfriend was also tested and her tests came back negative. I have attached a photo to illustrate the little bumps underneath the skin. Do you think they are associated with the bacteria? Also, in regards to my girlfriend what should she do for the bacterial vaginosis? Lastly, once she is cleansed from it what do you recommend we do in regards to cleaning our genitalia after intercourse?
Thank you in advance for your help, it is greatly appreciated. This is an embarrassing matter and I would like to resolve it as soon as possible. Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Likely fungal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thank you for follow up query.
I have gone through the photo and details.

It appears to be due to fungal infection.
You can clean the area with warm water twice daily.
I would have advised topical antifungal cream like clotrimazole. Oral antifungal like flucanazole 150 mg weekly once for 4 weeks. As they are prescription medicines, you will need to get it after an examination by a physician.
It is better for partner also to be treated simultaneously.

You can use condoms now.
Clean the area with warm water is enough.

Over cleaning with soaps may harm both .
You can get back for any clarification.
Thank you
