Question: my 74 year old husband got food in the wrong hole while eating. he is uncomfortable and panicky and breathing ok. has dementia so i can't get any good answers. kaiser permanente is closed. what should be done. XXXX

1. He has had mild aspiration.
2. Risk of infection present.
3. Need to relax. If he has any breathing difficulties or fever, chest X-ray will be necessary for evaluation of amount of aspiration and infection. You will need to meet your doctor.
4. If no breathing difficulties or any fever, not to worry. Give him Nutritional diet and good hydration.
