Suggest Remedy For Fatigue And Light-headedness When Having Dental Infection

Question: Hi;
I've had some dental infections, with a couple of rounds of antibiotics, including Ravamycine, before I had a molar extracted Feb. 26, 2015. The dentist used Propofol for I.V. sedation, and although I was jumpy for 12 post treatment, I was ok. I developed flu-like symptoms the next day, with pronounced muscle weakness and coughing and some nasal discharge. I had a couple of days of fever. The muscle weakness has lasted 5 weeks, as well lightheadedness and some dyspnea on mild exertionfor the past 3 weeks.. I saw my doctor, and she did a general exam, including muscle strength, co-ordination, and reflexes. I recently had a full eye exam with an ophthalmologist including visual fields. The bloodwork found that my CBC, blood sugar, thyroid were fine, but my CK was elevated which it has been in the past. I do have high cholesterol and I have been on Lipitor on and off, but I do have myalgia with it and it scares me. I have low pseudocholinesterase, and I did have significant muscle weakness with Botox in my forehead, all over my body for months, but it did resolve. My mother died of ALS at 70 years of age.
I'm nervous about the muscle weakness and lightheadedness, as I don't why it has lasted so long. My physician thinks it might be the combination of the dental sedation and the flu, but I had asked her for and echo test, as I had so many dental infections and worry it might effect my endocardium. Do you have any other suggestions as to what might be causing these symptoms? I've heard of post influenza asthenia but I don't know anything about this.
I have general good health otherwise and I only take Avamys for allergies.
I appreciate any suggestions.

Brief Answer:
Agree with your doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and medical details.

I agree with your doctor, and would like to reassure you that these symptoms are not suggestive of ALS or any other serious neurological illness.

Myalgia, fatigue, general weakness along with high CPK levels are common after flu, especially due to viral infections. These improve on their own in a few weeks to months.

Good nutrition, rest along with muscle strengthening exercises are helpful.

If the condition does not get better over time, of if their is more weakness, then, an EMG (electromyography) may be done to exclude inflammatory muscle disease (polymyositis).

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
