Suggest Remedy For Ear Fluid And Swollen Lymph Nodes

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: Hello
About a month ago I was told I had fluid on my ear and my lymph nodes were swollen. I took two rounds of antibiotics and it seemed to ease up. My ears now feel wet inside and are irritated and the back of my throat feels irritated also. I have an appointment with my doctor next week but the anxiety of not knowing what is wrong with me is driving me insane. I have high anxiety anyway and always expect the worst. I'm convinced I have cancer or some other fatal illness. Can you help? Why is it still bothering me after a month and two different antibiotics? I took two HIV tests that were negative to make sure that wasn't it. I'm just freaking out about this.

Brief Answer:
History s/o infection, appr. antibiotic required

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

The symptoms mentioned by you are not of cancer.
Infection of the middle ear is often accompanied by collection of fluid in middle ear and this condition is called ear effusion.
Swollen lymph node can be secondary to infection of the middle. ear.
The middle ear is connected with the throat via is tube, thus, explaining the wetness felt at the back of throat.
Antibiotic is the mainstay of treatment, however, if the infection is not responding the antibiotics, culture sensitivity of the accumulated fluid needs to be done.
Thus, get culture sensitivity of the fluid accumulated in the ear followed by drug sensitivity.

Thanks and take care
