Question: Hi Doctor,

I have some mild uncomfortability while urinating. small pricking painafter urination in urethra /prostate not sure but the pricking pain is in scortum.. I had gone to doctor and he has done urine RE/ ME and also culture. Everything seems to be fine and doctor asked me to drink lots of water. I started taking water and when bladder is full no issue at all but when bladder is not full and when i urinate i get very small pricking pain.. tenderness pain for a 1-2 seconds and then it is ok......I had been observing that after ejaculation this is seen more otherwise its ok....
In the past I had the similar problem in XXXXXXX and doctor had given me doxycycline for 10 days and everything settled down...

Right now I am in XXXXXXX -Canada and doctors here dont give antibiotics unless bacteria is found....

Could you please suggest me how to get ridof this problem...

Brief Answer:
You need to be tested for chlamydia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion you may suffer from Chlamydia.

Painful urination is a typical symptom of chlamydia. Also (but not always) you may notice small amounts of clear or cloudy discharge from the tip of the penis or testicles pain.
Almost half of all men with chlamydia don't notice any symptoms.

I would order for base line:
-chlamydia test on a urine sample or
-swab test where doctor will take sample from the urethra.
Your local doctors will know about this test.

Chlamydia is usually treated with antibiotics. The two most commonly prescribed antibiotics to treat chlamydia are:
-azithromycin which you take once or
-doxycycline (you had in India) which you have to take for 7 days.

Please note that your sexual partner should be treated as well.

After taking antibiotics you should be re-tested to be sure that the infection is cured.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
Prostatitis may be caused by chlamydia.

Detailed Answer:
Prostate infection is often caused by bacteria called Escherichia coli, but also may be caused by organisms that causing sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia.

Please note that if you have had chlamydia and were treated in the past, you can still get infected again if you have unprotected sex with someone who has chlamydia.

Summary: please make chlamydia test on a urine sample or swab test. This is the only way to know if you are infected or not.

Thank You. Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
urine culture does not show pathogens which cause sexually transmitted disease.

Detailed Answer:
A standard urine culture does not show chlamydia or others std's.

Doxycycline which you get in XXXXXXX is not the first line antibiotic for the prostatitis treatment and urinary tract infection.

Even that your only sexual partner is your wife there is still a chance of chlamydia.

Thank You.
