Suggest Remedy For Cramps When Suffering From Diarrhea

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: I usually don't have regular bowel movements. I can even go a couple weeks without going (this has been my whole life). But now, I've had diarrhea for about 3 days, at times so watery, it was like urinating. Every time I would eat, my stomach would start to cramp and I'd have to go to the bathroom within no more than 30 mins. Today, day 4, I had a to go as soon as I ate again, but today, I passed a long thin string (about 14 inches long and 1/8- 1/4" wide) that was brown. I'm not eating much due to the crapping and feel thin as ever. What's going on?

Brief Answer:
Ensure adequate intake of electrolyte solution

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Going by description of your symptoms you seem to be having Acute Gastroenteritis. Feeling thin is likely to be due to dehydration. The long thin string is unlikely to be worm or helminth as they are unlikely to be so long, it's likely to be mucous plug.

The principle of management is

1 Ensuring adequate intake of water and electrolyte to prevent dehydration

2. Ensure adequate intake of calories

I would suggest you the following

1. Probiotic will be helpful in reducing frequency of stools

2. Drink sufficient quantity of water and electrolyte. Have a glass of electrolyte solution after every loose stools

3. Antispasmodic : Over the counter antispasmodic like Drotavarin will help you get relief from stomach ache

4. Anti motility drug : If there is absence of blood in stool then anti motility drug like Loperamide which is available as over the counter medication will be helpful in reducing frequency of stools

4. Do ensure adequate intake of calories

5. Antacid like Pantoprozole will be helpful

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
