Suggest Remedy For Cramps And Pain After Taking Probiotic Drink
I know this is terribly gross...and I'm so sorry. I'm afraid, to eat, or to take my supplements for my IC and not sure if this is normal (not that I plan on taking the probiotic again).
WHat is this? ....I just don't know what to do.
expected adverse effect of probiotic, change flora
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The use of probiotics is still in research phase and its use in interstitial cystitis and you can decide yourself after I explain what are probiotics.
Probiotics are basically living microorganisms administered in an attempt help the host. When you took probiotics, it basically changed your gut flora which is why you had such nasty cramps. Your reaction to probiotics could be related to like antibiotic associated diarrhea in which all the diarrhea which may be bloody at times as well is due to change in gut flora. For some people the reaction may not be as severe as yourself but it is an expected side effect. I strongly advise you not to use probiotic ever again not because it may not have any role in interstitial cystitis but because of the drastic side effect that you may face as a result of it.
As for interstitial cystitis, there are certain physical exercises which your doctor might recommend and that may help with it.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or naproxen (Aleve), to relieve pain.
Tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline or imipramine (Tofranil), to help relax your bladder and block pain.
Antihistamines, such as loratadine (Claritin, others), which may reduce urinary urgency and frequency and relieve other symptoms.
I highly recommend the use of Pentosan (Elmiron), which is approved by the Food and Drug Administration specifically for treating interstitial cystitis. How it works is unknown, but it may restore the inner surface of the bladder, which protects the bladder wall from substances in urine that could irritate it. It may take two to four months before you begin to feel pain relief and up to six months to experience a decrease in urinary frequency.
and then there are nerve stimulation techniques like transcutaneous nerve stimulation technique and sacral nerve stimulation technique which you may use in case medicines are no longer source of relief for you. I hope it helps. Don't forget to close and rate the question. Thank you
