Suggest Remedy For Chronic Pain After Back Surgery

default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I have cronic pain from back surgery which fused 4 vertebrae with many screws and pins. I have taken the XXXXXXX of 400 mg of tramadol for 4-5 years with moderate relief and no side effects. Pain at night is a problem but ambien gives me some relief. Now Ohio has passed regulations that my says prohibits use of both medication. My reading of the rew regulation say that they are "recommendations" and that doctors have the option to prescribe both. Who is right?

Brief Answer:
Both are right

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Both are right. Doctors have an option to prescribe it both but only if needed. Both may potentiate the effect of each other and should be used carefully together. However it is not an absolute contraindication.

Nutshell, tramadol is a very last resort medications itself and due to its adverse effects and addictive properties, it should be avoided in first place. But for surgical pains like yours it can be used at your doctor's discretion.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

I believe that tramadol is a mid pain medication and not a last resort. Aren't percoset and other opiods the last resort and likely to cause additiction. One of my doctors told me that tramadol is not an opiod and does not cause addiction. Do you agree? I have missed doses of tramadol with side effects at all.

In any effect you agree that doctors still have the authority, in Ohio, to prescribe both tradadol and ambien, as I understand your answer.

Brief Answer:
Tramadol opioid, Ohio Laws no idea, although prescribed

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back

I am afraid you are wrong regarding tramadol not being opioid. Percocets are just more potent that tramadol. We use it as a last resort of safer analgesia. Percocets and other strong opioids are not to be considered even.

As i mentioned earlier these two are safe together although they potentiate each others effect. As far as ohio state is concerned. neither i am an attorney there nor a practitioner. So i don't know how it works there, but as a doctor with the knowledge of the medicines, these two can be safely prescribed together provided the needs of the patient.

I hope it clarifies.
Take care
