Question: I went to my dr today because it burned when I went to the bathroom. He said it looks like herpes. I haven't had sex in over a year or masturbated. So I am freaking out a little bit. I did have a cold sore like a month ago he said I could of transferred the virus then by wiping my self or towel drying. My question is will I have this forever now like the gental herpes that are an STD?

Brief Answer:
Possible urinary tract infection-needs confirmation

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your query and concern.

Active Genital herpes is quite unlikely in the absence of sexual intercourse over a year or so.

Cold sores in and around the mouth could be due to various reasons apart from herpes.

I advice you to have a Complete Urine examination along with ultrasound of the urogenital organs to rule out the possibility of any significant active bacterial urinary tract infection.

Meanwhile empirical therapy in the form of tab Norfloxacin 400 mg twice a day for 7 days along with tab Valcyclovir 1g twice a day for 7 days is all that is enough.

Please note all the mentioned drugs have to be taken only in presence of strict medical supervision.

Post your queries,if any.
Thank you.
