Suggest Remedies For Small Red Itchy Bumps On Ankles

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Question: I have developed very small red bumps from my ankles to a point approx. 6" above. They came up spontaneously about 3 days ago and itch like measles. I have tried calamine lotions, Aloe Vera Gels baby powder, and Witch XXXXXXX All help for about 15 minutes then the itching resumes. I have tried not to scratch them and there are no indications of a white or pus filled head. What can I do to get through this comfortably. They are not bug bites (i.e. Chiggers or Ants) and I have not been in contact with any poisonous plants and to the best of my knowledge, I have no allergies. I have also tried spraying 1% Hydrocortisone on them and have rubbed the areas with Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream, USP 0.1%. (Left over from a case of poison ivy last year).
I have taken an antihistamine tablet before bed last night (Loratadine 10mg – Claritin) It has not produced any effect and I am still waking in the middle of the night with severe itching.

The pictures you requested are of the interior front of both legs from anklebone to 6 to 8 inches above.

allergic reaction; i/v management at hospital is requested

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query along with images attached and would try to help you in the best possible way. Your rash appearance and history is suggesting acute allergic reaction. In most cases it gets improved with oral cetirizine tablet taken before going to bed. As you have already taken antihistamine and your problem is still persisting so i would suggest you to once visit hospital and get i/v antihistamine and steroid injection. They will neutralize the effect much faster and you will see improvement within few minutes. i/v medicines are not OTC so that's the main reason i am referring you there.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wishing you good health !!
