Question: My daughter is 9 years old and have been suffering from epilepsy from last 1. 8 years now. She is undergoing treatment under Dr XXXXXXX Udani at Hinduja Hospital and currently on medicines Oxetol 300 mg(900 Mg per day) and Frisium 10 ( 20 mg per day). All reports (EEG, MRI, PET SCAN, CSF etc) have come normal. However despite our best efforts and treatment the seizures are continuous event . The current frequency is 6-7 times a day and duration are 8 seconds to 20 seconds. Kindly guide us as to what can be done in this situation? We have been told that it is refractory epilepsy. She gets these jerks in head and then one of hand gets stiff, sometimes she does leg movements (she is quiet attentive during the siezure as if tell her stop making leg moments she immediately stops it) den she passes saliva. She otherwise completely normal and behavior is very normal. However study wise she finds it difficult to understand. Please guide us.

Brief Answer:
Video EEG needs to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar, a neurologist here to answer your query.

The kind of description you have given for the seizure is atypical for the seizure. Further, as the seizures are not responding to antiepileptic drugs, a video EEG and 'MRI Brain with epilepsy' protocol should be done to look for the etiology and seizure focus. That will help in planning the treatment.

Meanwhile, please upload EEG report and a video clip of the seizure episode. Video of the seizure will help me to analyze the type of seizure and I shall be able to form a better opinion regarding the same.

You can upload the video clip on google drive and share the drive link here in the follow-up query.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.
