Suggest Remedies For Punctured Vein On Wrist After A Blood Test

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: Hi Doc,
I went for a physical 3 days ago and they had to take 4-5 little tubes of blood for various tests. When the lab attendent put the 4th little tube to draw blood, the syringe in my vein moved a little and it sent a shock sensation near my wrist. It was nothing too bad. The exact location of the area of shock sensation is where the buckle of the wrist watch is (it is on my right hand though). The first day was alright but next day onwards, whenever I am fully stretching my right arm, it is giving me a shock sensation on my wrist (buckle of wrist watch place). Please advise.

Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to HCM..

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Sorry to say that it's an unfortunate event that you've gone through, as from your description it looks like a Nerve injury..

Nothing too serious as of now but you need to follow some advises..

There are numerous fine nerve endings at that area of our hand that you've mentioned so the first priority is to give the hand rest for a while..

I'd suggest you to keep the Right hand strictly immobilized(a small soft splint will help, you can find and put it on with the help of any experienced pharmacist)..

Keep ice-bag compression over that particular area multiple times in a day, remember just apply, don't rub !!

Also do not rub any ointments at all, as it'll worsen the recovery process..

Instead of Aleve, you can take Tab IBUPROFEN 400 mg Thrice daily after food for next 2 days(remember only for next 2 days), it'll help with the pain..

I can understand it'll be difficult since it's the right hand but you need to avoid any kind of physical activity for next 3-4 days and stay rested..

Depends on type of nerve injury, it takes around few days to weeks to heal, but yours don't seem so serious.. still if it persists beyond 3-4 days, then I'd advice you to get physically examined by an Orthopedician to rule out any deep injuries and investigation as well as management accordingly..

Let me know if there's any further queries, I'll be glad to help you out..

Take Care
Kind Regards
